This event has been held since 1955 but was known as the Tevis Cup. Why did it change and who was hosing around?
This event has been held since 1955 but was known as the Tevis Cup. The Tevis Cup was started by Wendell T. Robie. Wendell along with 5 horsemen rode the Western States Trail from the post office in Tahoe City to Auburn, proving that horses could still cover 100 miles in one day. In 1974 the Pioneer Gordy Ainsleigh was the first person to run the now famous Westerns States race.
He made the inaugural run in 23hrs 42mins.
